Plastic Fantastic?

Exolon Group Supports Exhibition at the Museum of Industry in Ghent

Ghent/Tielt, Belgium, 12. December 2024. How fantastic is plastic, really? This question is explored in the new special exhibition "Fantastic Plastic?" at the Museum of Industry in Ghent. The Exolon Group, a leading plastics processing company in Flanders, is supporting the exhibition by providing materials for the plastic laboratory.

Through animations, archival material, and fascinating objects of all kinds, the exhibition offers intriguing, curious, and critical insights into the history of plastic production and its use.

For the Exolon Group, headquartered in Tielt, just 40 kilometers away, it was a natural choice to contribute to an exhibition “right on their doorstep.” The company supplied sheets made from various materials, which are featured in the interactive plastic laboratory. Here, visitors can explore the properties and diverse processing possibilities of plastics. Additionally, various types of Exolon® polycarbonate sheets showcase the versatility of plastics in terms of thickness, colors, and surface textures.

The special exhibition at the Museum of Industry in Ghent will be open until June 1, 2025. It traces the evolution of plastic from its natural precursors and the first synthetic plastics of the early 20th century, through the mass production boom following World War II, to today’s ingenious high-tech applications. Visitors will also learn about plastic pioneers such as Leo Baekeland, the inventor of the world-famous “Bakelite.” At the same time, video testimonials highlight the global environmental impacts of plastic production, encouraging reflection.
