In July 2016, the Allianz Stadium in Vienna's Hütteldorf district opened after a construction period of only 17 months. 19,000 m2 of roof and wall surfaces were covered with Exolon® multi UV 3/16-16 project multiwall polycarbonate sheets in four different shades of green.  

Transparent inner roof ring provides safety

Transparent multiwall sheets up to 13 meters long were used for the inner ring of the roof to allow the grass to grow. The geometry of the panels allowed large spans to be realized. These can withstand high loads and lead to significant savings in the substructure.

Reduced noise for neighbors

Another requirement for the new building was to reduce noise pollution for neighboring residents. The Exolon® multiwall polycarbonate sheet, in combination with the now closed roof corners of the stadium, scored points for its sound insulation properties. Thanks to the sheet's good workability on the construction site, the sheets could be optimally adapted to the shape of the roof.

The "green hell", as the fans affectionately call their stadium, is now open and guarantees a great atmosphere and many emotional football moments.

A lightweight that saves costs

Cost savings of 40 to 45 percent are another advantage over glass roof construction. Polycarbonate panels are lighter, making them easier to transport and less difficult to install. The substructure, usually made of metal or aluminum, can also be more filigree.

Solid and multiwall polycarbonate sheets have already proven themselves in stadium construction and many other large projects. In Germany, numerous new or remodeled sports facilities are impressive testimony to the virtuoso capabilities of Exolon® sheets. Numerous reference projects around the world are impressive proof of this.
